Pre-Floor Finishing Considerations ──
Installing new hardwood floors starts with scheduling a delivery so the wood can acclimate to your home’s environment. The space should have working electric lights and 110-volt outlets, with all doors, windows, and the heating system fully operational. Any existing carpet, nails, staples, tack strips, plaster, or adhesive must be cleared, and all furniture and appliances should be removed from the area to ensure a smooth, professional installation.
Wood is a natural material, which means variations and minor imperfections are part of its character and can’t always be controlled. While our goal is a beautiful, durable finish, small inclusions—like dust, brush bristles, or tiny debris—may occasionally appear. Work is performed in a home environment, not a controlled factory setting, so minor marks on baseboards or floor edges from our equipment can occur and may require touch-ups. Wood can also slightly raise in spots after finishing and naturally expands or contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. Using a home humidifier connected to your heating system is strongly recommended to maintain stable moisture levels, and linseed oil putty can help fill minor cracks while matching floor color.
Some dust is inevitable, even with our ventilation systems and protective measures. To minimize disruption, people, pets, and plants should be removed from the area. Fireplaces should be cleared of ashes, mail securely taped, and food covered or refrigerated. Soft furnishings—like draperies, blinds, pillows, and lampshades—should be removed or properly covered, and delicate electronics, pianos, or wooden furniture require special care. For pianos, consult your dealer or tuner for best practices. These precautions help ensure the sanding and finishing process goes smoothly while protecting your home and belongings.
Hardwood Flooring Preparation
To help your hardwood installation or refinishing go as smoothly as possible, we provide preparatory services like floor cleaning, billed at an hourly rate. These can be scheduled ahead of time—just let your estimator know what assistance you’d like. For the best results, we suggest installing baseboards only after the new flooring is fully finished. While we handle your home with care, equipment or cords may occasionally leave minor marks on walls, which might require light touch-up painting by the homeowner or contractor. Contact us at (406) 656-3613, and we’ll guide you through every step of the process.
